Taipei's Night Market
Taipei is famous for it numerous night markets dotted throughout the city where people go to shop and eat after the sun goes down, many staying open till midnight.
The night market encompassed two distric sections sharing a simbiolitic relationship: a section formerly houses in the old Shilin Market building., containing mostly food vendors and small eateries; and the surrounding businesses and shops selling other nonfood items. The food court holds 539 stalls, and the second floor serves as a parking lot for 400 cars.
In addition to the food court, side streets and alleys are lined with storefronts and roadside stands. movie theaters, video arcades, and karaoke stores are also prevalent in the area. Like most market in Taiwan, the local businesses and vendors begin opening around 4 PM. As students begin returning home from school, crowds reach their peak between 8 and 11 PM. Businesses continue operating well past midnight and close around 1 or 2 AM.
Tourist traffic has increased in recent years due to the opening of the Taipei Metro system. The night marker is closest to Jiantan Station on the Tamsui Line (Red Line) as it's known by locals. From the platform of Jiantan Station, riders can see the enclose food court located across the street from the MRT station.

How Environment and Behavior Affect a Person's Sleep
Strees is the number one cause of short-term sleeping difficulties, according to sleep experts. Common triggers include school or job related pressures, a family or marriage problem and a serious illness or death in the family. Usually the sleep problem disappears when the stressful situation passes. However, if short-term sleep problems such as insomnia aren't managed properly from the beginning, they can persist long after the original stress has passed.
Drinking alcohol or beverages containing caffeine in the afternoon or evening, exercising close to bedtime, following an irregular morning and nighttime schedule, and working or doing other mentally intense activities right before of after getting into bed can disrupt sleep.
If you are among the 20 percent of employees in the United States who are shift workers, sleep may be particularly ilusive. Shift work force you to try to sleep when activities around you and your own biological rhythms - signal you to be awake. One study shows that shift workers are two to five time more likely than employees with regular, daytime hours to fall a sleep on the job.
Traveling also disrupts sleep, especially jet lag and traveling across several time zones. This can upset your biological or circadian rhythms.
Environmental factors such as a room that's too hot or cold, too noisy or too brightly lit can be a barrier to sound sleep. And interruptions from children or other family members can also disrupt sleep. Other influences to pay attention to are the comfort and size of your bed and the habbits of your sleep, or has other sleep difficulties, it often becomes your problem too.
Having a 24/7 lifestyle can also interupt regular sleep patterms: theglobal economi that includes round the clock industries working to beat the competition; widespread use of nonstop automated system to communicate and an increase in shift work makes for sleeping at regular times difficult.

Those Winter Sundays
Sundays to my father gor ur early
And put his clothes on in the blueback cold,
Then with cracked hands that ached
From labor in the weekday weather made
Banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him
I'd wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking.
When the rooms were warm, he'd call,
And slowly I would rise and dress,
Fearing the chronic angersof that house,
Speaking indirerently to him,
Who had driven out the cold
and polished my good shoesas well.
What did I know; what did I know
Of love's austere and lonely offices?

Soondubu Jiggae
Soondubu jiggae is a Korean stew (jiggae) - thicker than a soup but thinner than a porridge. When cooked in the traditional way (in an eartheenware pt - pictured above) all of the cooking is done in just the one dish. This makes it very easy to clean up afterwards - a job we all hate. It satarts witha delicious fish stock and a little beef to depeen the flavor then finished off with fresh shell fish, hot pepper flakes, silken tofu, and eggs which are optional. The best thing about this stew is that you - the cook - can control how hot you want it but limiting the quantity of hot papper flakes. You can have it blisteringly hot or very mild which is particularly handy if you are cooking for children who can't stomach their food too spicy. The small amount of beef is typical of Korean food and illustrated how healthy it is - the meat is used for flavor rather tahn stomach filling. This is a dish everyone should try - it is really on of the nicest ways to introduce someone to tofu which pick up all of the flavor of the stew while adding a soft comforting texture. Eat it with rice and side dishes for a complete meal.
